The short answer for most drivers in the Lower Mainland is twice a year: once in spring to clear the winter salt and grime, and once in fall to go into the wet months clean and protected. That schedule fits the majority of the cars we look after.
But "most drivers" is doing a lot of work in that sentence. Here is how to work out your own number.
A full detail is a reset, not a wash. Everything vacuumed properly, every surface wiped down, and the wheel wells and jambs pressure washed rather than ignored. Left alone, that condition holds for roughly four to six months before the car starts asking again.
So: a Reset in March or April, another in September or October. That is the baseline.
Kids. Car seats, snacks, and school runs put a car through more in a month than commuting does in six. Every parent who tells us "it is not that bad" is wrong, kindly.
A dog. Hair works its way into fabric and stays. Regular attention is far easier than an annual rescue mission, and it keeps you out of the Restore bracket.
Street parking under trees. Sap, pollen, and bird droppings all etch paint if they sit. Uncovered parking is genuinely harder on a finish than the mileage is.
Long commutes. Highway miles mean bugs, tar, and brake dust, plus more hours of the interior being lived in.
Two or more of those apply? Consider a Refresh between the full details. Two hours, interior or exterior, is enough to hold the line without paying for a full reset four times a year.
A garaged car, driven alone, kept tidy, with a ceramic coating on it can comfortably go a full year between details. The coating is doing real work there: it is why Showroom customers wash less and detail less often.
Two windows matter more here than anywhere else on the calendar.
Late winter, February to April. Road salt is corrosive and it collects underneath, in the seams, and in the carpets you have been tracking it into since December. Getting it out is the single highest-value detail of the year.
Early fall, September to October. Going into eight months of rain with clean, protected paint means less grime bonding to it and much easier maintenance washes all winter.
If you only ever book once a year, book the spring one.
Ignore the calendar if any of these are true: the carpets no longer vacuum clean, there is a smell you have stopped noticing but passengers have not, water sits flat on the paint instead of beading, or you find yourself apologising before someone gets in.
That last one is the most reliable signal there is.
