Wax, sealant, and ceramic coating all promise the same thing: protect the paint, make it shine. They differ enormously in how long that lasts, which matters here more than it would somewhere dry.
Carnauba wax is a natural product that sits on top of the paint. It gives a warm, deep look that enthusiasts genuinely love. It lasts roughly six weeks to three months, less through a coastal winter.
Synthetic sealant is a man-made polymer that bonds better than wax. Less character in the shine, but four to six months of real protection. This is what goes on during a Restore.
Ceramic coating chemically bonds to the clear coat and cures hard. Two to five years, far better chemical resistance, and much easier washing. This is the Showroom.
Two things here are hard on paint, and they pull in different directions.
Winter rain and road salt. Months of wet, salty spray is exactly what strips wax fastest. A November coat of carnauba may be doing very little by January, right when you need it most. Sealants and coatings hold up far better against salt.
Summer sun and sap. Long dry spells bring UV, tree sap, and bird droppings, all of which etch paint if they sit. Coatings buy you time to get them off before damage sets in. Wax does not.
So the wetter and more outdoor your car's life, the more the durable options justify themselves.
Compare cost per year rather than sticker price. Wax needs redoing four or more times a year. A sealant, included with a Restore you were booking anyway, is effectively free protection twice a year. A coating is a large one-time cost spread across several years.
Run those numbers over three years and a coating usually lands in the same range as repeated waxing, with far better protection and less work in between. Over one year, waxing wins easily.
Keeping the car under two years, or on a budget: take the sealant that comes with a Restore. Keeping it three or more years and it lives outside: the coating pays for itself in effort saved and finish preserved.
